A series of collected and bleached advertising photographs accumulated in the living environment and urban spaces of Japanese artist Hideyuki Shimauchi. Those bleached photographs induce an awareness of the context and value of the advertisement. The book was designed as a device to liberate the original role of those photographs. A separate volume includes a commentary by curator Kensho Tambara and a conversation between Tokyo Photographic Research organiser Taisuke Koyama and Shimauchi.

Born 1985 in Saga Prefecture, currently resides in Tokyo. After working as a graphic designer, he began working with photography as a material in2019. Bleaching and erasing symbolic images drifting in society, such as printed matter discarded as trash and advertisements on the streets and the Internet, he creates works that recapture the relationship between the individual, the media, and the photographs that accompany them. Awards received include Watowa Art Award Finalist in 2023, Tokyo Frontline Photo Award in 2022, and Jury Prize from Chihiro Minato and Taisuke Koyama. Major exhibitions include ‘I count three bodies’ (Sono Aida #New Yurakucho, Tokyo, 2022), ‘Ghost Dilemma’ (229 Gallery, Tokyo, 2023), ‘Visions of a Torn World’ (Hectare Gallery, Tokyo, 2023), ‘Missing Link’ (Syndicate, Kagawa, 2024)and others.
