On 128 pages, “SangBleu Typeface: The King, His Court, The Explorer & The Gift” celebrates cuttingedge typography in general and the SangBleu fonts in particular. Devised as a collector’s item, it provides a unique combination of design and content: at the heart of the publication is a novella by Daniela Party, specifically written for this purpose.

The book starts off with illustrations of a skull and a beheaded female warrior, followed by serpents and an Aztec ghost figure. This dark and savage imagery sets the atmosphere. Giant initials, printed in loud pink, lead into the book like drumbeats in the jungle – S – B – G – U... The title page presents the names of the five collections that form the SangBleu typeface: Empire, Kingdom, Republic, Versailles, Sunrise. Each family is displayed on a spread of 20 pages, in a layout that was freely inspired by a type specimen for Caslon Old Face from 1924. The sample pages emulate all kinds of text types, from novels and magazines to drama and poetry, in sizes big and small. Some pages feature large headlines or block quotes in italics. Others show off spectacular drop caps and strongly contrasting sizes or weights. Designers interested in seeing the Cyrillics do not miss out either.

The scope and versatility of the SangBleu collection is exhibited in its entirety. All text is taken from Daniela Party’s novella. Set in the late 17th century, an era of absolutism, superstition, and colonialism, it narrates the story of Meztli, an indigenous Mexican woman with extrasensory powers. Captured by French explorer La Salle, she is sent as a gift to Louis XIV, the Sun King – a gift that would set off a series of macabre events involving witchcraft, lust, envy, and death. Designed by Swiss Typefaces, the SangBleu Typeface book was printed in five colors, four of them Pantone spot colors including metallic and neon inks, and is further enriched by a special binding with several foldout pages – all made in Switzerland.

Pages: 128
Dimensions: 245 × 315 mm / 9.6 × 12.4”
Binding: Softcover
Language: English
Year: 2017
Publisher: Swiss Typefaces
Novel & Illustrations: Daniela Party
Origin: Switzerland

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0491/5749/products/1_30bdd723-8f44-48b7-a1cf-de6693b87d6a.jpg?v=1562241791
may-25-is-now-october-1
May 25 is now October 1

This publication has been used for display purposes, has been damaged in transport or has defects in printing or binding. Resulting from a study project carried out at the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD – Genève), «Renewing the city from the Within» formulates alternatives to the urban development model centred on building expansion, by proposing scenarios for the renewal, from the inside out, of existing collective housing buildings in Geneva.By analysing a sample of collective housing buildings from the three main periods of the city’s development, the publication develops scenarios aimed at adapting these typologies to a convivial and mixed lifestyle, based on principles of solidarity, hospitality and sharing.

Pages: 216
Dimensions: 240 x 320 mm
Format: Softcover
Language: English, French
Year: 2022
Design: Spassky Fischer
Publisher: Caryatide

This book has been used for display, or has been scratched or stained during transport, or has printing or binding defects. At the same time, a new cityscape emerged. This architecture can be compared to that completed during the city’s previous anniversary in 1923. It can also be related to a longer tradition of buildings constructed in connection with anniversaries and world exhibitions.

From this perspective, sociologist Karl Palmås and photographer Kalle Sanner explore Gothenburg’s built environment. In a survey that includes film, photography, and text, they trace the visions of the future that underpin the city’s new buildings. Supported by discussions with architecture critic Mark Isitt and author Lydia Sandgren, they pose the question: In what way does the anniversary architecture represent the art of our time?

Karl Palmås (b. 1976) is a researcher whose work focuses on the relationship between the built and the conceptual.
